     Dr. Marcus Ashlock is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communications.  He advises students and teaches the following courses: AGCOM 400 - Agricultural Business Communication, AGCOM 510 - Senior Capstone in Ag Communications, AGCOM 590 - New Media Technology, AGCOM 610 - Crisis Communications, and AGCOM 810 - Scientific Communication.  He also serves as an adviser for the student chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow.  Ashlock is a member of the graduate faculty for both the College of Agriculture and the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism & Mass Communications; in 2008 he became a faculty member of the K-State Food Science Institute.

     Prior to his academic career, Marcus worked for Tyson Foods, Inc. for eight years in various management roles, managing over 50 people in several poultry production operations producing edible chicken products for brands such as Taco Bell, Domino's Pizza, Burger King, and McDonald's Japan.  He was introduced into crisis planning as a Plant Safety Manager where he became a Haz-Mat instructor and was qualified as an Incident Commander for any Haz-Mat response.

      Marcus has more than five and a half years experience as a Corporate Trainer for Tyson where he conducted seminar-style leadership and management development training for entry-level through executive level managers.  He's a certified administrator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality assessment, having personally administered the instrument to over 1,200 individuals.  He is also near completion on becoming a certified Human Performance Improvement Analyst through the American Society of Training and Development.

     Marcus is an Eagle Scout and currently volunteering in the local Coronado Council for the Boy Scouts of Amercia as the Coordinator of the annual Merit Badge Conference; he's a former Arkansas Association State FFA Officer from 1988-89; the 1st VP of the Manhattan Sunflower Lions Club and the current Lions District Zone 10 Chairman and PR Chair; and is an amateur ham radio operator at the call sign KD5RAP.  Marcus is married with no children, and his wife, Megan, is a high school journalism and mulitmedia teacher.
